The rich eggplant purple, orange, and black in this portrayal of Migdal Dovid are darker than my usual color palette. When I worked on it up close, it seemed to be full of black brushstrokes, and it was hard to see the beauty. I had to keep stepping back to see the whole picture so I could appreciate the way that the darkness enhanced the painting, giving it dimension and depth.
